The Steven Universe Comic Series is a monthly comic book series that originally started in August 2014. As of February 2017, the series has been rebooted under Melanie Gillman (writer) and Katy Farina (artist). It is published by KaBoom Studios. The series is presented as little vignettes about the lives of the characters, with each issue being character-driven.[1] Issues are available for purchase in Hot Topic, comic book stores, and other stores as well.

Steven Universe (2014-2015), the original comic series by Jeremy Sorese (writer) and Coleman Engle (main artist), was presented as a zine-like format, with each issue having different sources of content (from recipes to mini-comics to games and more).

Steven Universe & The Crystal Gems, a 4-part miniseries, was released in 2016, with the first issue on March 16.[2]

  • Each issue has three covers drawn by various artists to choose from: cover A, cover B, and cover C.
  • A sneak peek of the 2014 series was featured in Adventure Time's Spoooktacular #1 as a teaser to the TV series, as well as being featured in Kaboom! Summer Blast for one of its annual Free Comic Book Days.
  • It features new plots and characters that may or may not appear in the actual cartoon series.

  • The timeframe of the 2017 series is kept roughly within the same timeframe as the newest episodes.[17]
